One of the things we love about AeroPress is the ability to brew so many different ways.

In this brew guide, we’ll talk about the traditional and inverted method.

Perfect for at home or on-the-go, our AeroPress brew guide will have you brewing the perfect cup of filter coffee.

Quick tip – if there is too much sediment in your cup, its due to plunging too quickly.

There is no hard and fast rule with AeroPress, so try different blends, grind levels, brew ratios, times and various methods to find what works best for you.

For blends, we use 17g of ground coffee and for Single Origins we use 20g of ground coffee.

Both traditional and inverted methods use 250g of water at 92c for a water-to-coffee brew ratio of 15:1 for blends and 13:1 for single origins.

AeroPress Traditional Method

  1. Preheat your mug, rinse the paper filter and preheat the brewing chamber - discard this water before the next step.
  2. Add the ground coffee to the chamber
  3. Give the Aeropress a little shake to level out the grinds
  4. Add just enough water to cover the coffee grinds, let bloom for 30sec
  5. Add the remaining water
  6. Insert the plunger, just inside the brewing chamber, then pull it back a little to create a vacuum
  7. Leave to brew for 40 seconds, then give a quick, strong stir to create whirlpool and replace the plunger
  8. Brew a further 20 seconds
  9. Slowly plunge for 30 seconds
  10. Add milk / honey etc if needed, drink & enjoy!

AeroPress Inverted Method

Invert your AeroPress and brew by immersion for a smoother yet fuller bodied cup.

  1. Preheat your mug, rinse the paper filter and preheat the brewing chamber - discard this water before the next step.
  2. Add the ground coffee to the chamber
  3. Give the Aeropress a little shake to level out the grinds
  4. Add half the water, let bloom for 30sec
  5. Agitate the water and add the remaining water
  6. Slowly plunge for 55 seconds
  7. Add milk / honey etc if needed, drink & enjoy!
